Downtown Kennett

A Success Story of Downtown Revitalization

Kennett's historic downtown courthouse square and business district are going through a modern-day renaissance, thanks to recent grant funding from the Missouri Department of Economic Development and its Neighborhood Assistance Program.  In 2012, the area saw the installation of attractive new sidewalks and period-correct street lighting.  More and more downtown businesses are also joining the momentum by restoring their historic facades to their former grandeur.

The business mix on the downtown square is a dynamic one:  Art galleries, a pharmacy, an appliance and traditional toy store, a destination restaurant, antiques, furniture and gifts, jewelry, beauty and barber shops and several clothing boutiques.  The square is also home to the Dunklin County Courthouse, a stunning example of Art Deco-period architecture, as well as the U.S. Post Office and Dunklin County Library.  On Saturday mornings from May-October be sure to visit the Farmers' Market as well.

Just a block away, you'll find the nationally-acclaimed Sheryl Crow Aquatic Center, a junior-Olympic, competition-sized swimming pool and water park, its neighboring Mitchell Park (with picnic pavillion and walking trail), a meticulously restored Opera House event ballroom and the Dunklin County Museum (the only local building listed on the National Historic Register).
